Business address : 1270 Dogwood St. Unit 30 Campbell River, BC V9W 3A4 Work Location: Walcan Road, Heriot Bay BC V0P 1H0 (Quadra Island) Type of Employment: Full Time - Permanent Estimated Start Date: As soon as possible                                                        Job Description:   Cut, clean and trim fish or seafood prior to marketing or further processing Scrape away scales, cut fish, separate fillets and remove scrap parts using knife Check fish fillets to determine optional number and size of fillet sections, cut sections according to specifications and place in containers for weighing Disjoint and remove meat from crustaceans, preparatory to canning or further processing Weighing, sorting and packing prawns into 2lb boxes Rack the boxes into plate freezers Case up crews taking frozen product and packing in master cartons and labelling it for shipment Pick pin bones out of the fillet with tweezers Depending on the season workers will: gut and clean salmon on a processing line using knives, vacuums and water spoons, casing up fresh and frozen salmon, packing salmon roe and working on fillet lines Depending on the season workers will: sort by size herring and pack on trays to be frozen, case up frozen trays in master cartons prior to shipment, “pop” herring roe from female herring, crack sea urchin shells open and pick the uni (ovaries) out with tweezers. Clean surfaces with pressure washers, soap brushes and hoses Clean-up and sanitize work station and department   Requirements: - Education: Not required - Experience: Experience is an asset. On-the-job training will be provided. - Must know that this is a physically demanding position, it requires to be standing for extended hours, bending, crouching, kneeling and perform repetitive tasks. - Must be able to work in a cold/refrigerated and wet/damp environment with odors - Must be willing to work with fish guts, blood, and unpleasant odors. - Due to the nature of our business and to due to delicate fishing products we work with workers must be willing to work with short notice scheduling (reacting to fishing grounds opening and closing requires us to contact workers the day before and tell them whether we are or are not working that day and what time we will start at. This can vary from 745 am to 1:30 pm depending on when boats arrive at docks). No fixed end time for the shift (we work until we are done due to the product being fresh when it comes in and it must be processed immediately)       Salary : $16.50 to $18.00 hourly, 30 to 60 hours per week.     Benefits: - Extended Medical benefits and Dental benefits after one year of employment. All personal protective gear (work boots, smocks, aprons, gloves, etc.) is provided. - Transportation allowance is added to each worker’s check for each day worked ($5.00) to cover cost of ferry from Campbell River to Quadra Island. We provide van/buses to drive people from the ferry terminal on Quadra to the plant and we pick employees up along a route. - Depending on workers performance and the number of worked hours, a salary raise can be considered. - During Prawn Season May-June, Night shift are required (All workers are paid an additional $0.75 per hour to work night shift on prawns). - Accommodation available at discounted rate. The Osprey No. 1 catches fish that are headed, gutted and frozen on board. The fishing and factory operations work 24 hours/day and provides a scheduled shift rotation of two trips on and one trip off with trips averaging 10-14 days.  The Osprey only fishes in Canadian waters off the West Coast of British Columbia. Main Responsibilities: The deck hands are responsible for setting and hauling nets, processing, weighing and packaging fish in the factory and general cleaning. Requirements • Minimum 2 years of purchasing and inventory management experience. • Forklift certification with minimum two years forklift driving experience (mandatory). • Valid Class 5 Driver's License required. • Experience and knowledge of the commercial fishing industry is an asset • Ability to adapt, improvise and solve problems quickly and efficiently. • Ability to work autonomously on multiple tasks and projects, with various teams. • Organized and efficient, with strong detail-orientation • Proficient in using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook). • Strong oral and written English communication skills.
